Life Lessons − Production

• This past year has been a busy one for the Life Lessons project. A new mini documentary was produced featuring the story of Ann Ruiz of Shirley, New York. Ann moved from Puerto Rico to New York City as a young girl. She watched and learned as her family prospered and grew. Ann went on to raise a family of her own and to see love in a second marriage. Ann’s story is now on the Life Lessons movies page. Assisting Doug on this project was two of his students from Hofstra University, Mike Rieger and Zach Grabber both from the spring 2009 graduating class. This summer the taping of Dr. Alonso Hilton Shockley was completed at the Town of Brookhaven Rose Carracappa Senior Citizen Center in Mount Sinai, New York. Dr. Shockley was a pioneer of education in the town of Freeport, New York as he helped implement new curriculum into both pre-school and K-12 programs. He served during World War Two and has achieved many awards as an educator and leader. Assisting Doug on the filming was his friend and colleague Ernst Star and Hofstra student Allison Smollen (class of 2010). The Dr. Schockley footage will start the editing process during the Fall of 2009.

• The Life Lessons project is greatfull for a grant from the Hofstra University School of Communication faculty research fund. We are also grateful for the help of the Town of Brookhaven Department of Senior Citizen Affairs (Donna Bonacci – Director) and the help of Michele Posillico manager of the Rose Carracappa Senior Citizen Center. Documentary filming and PSA tapings are now in the works for the Spring and Summer of 2010.

DAM Video Productions

The spring and summer have seen a busy production schedule from DAM Video. Recently we have taped and produced a number of Island Industries projects in the New York City area. As well, we have continued DVD authoring and production for Summit Hill Laboratories in New Jersey.
